June 8, 2000 -- Level 3 Communications, Inc. has opened
its fifth Internet and communications facility in the New York
metropolitan area, the company said today.
. The
new building in Garden City, Long Island, is designed to meet
"the continuing growing demand for business and residential
Internet and communications services in the region," the
company said.
. Level
3 also announced that its 500,000 square foot colocation facility
in Manhattan is now serving customers.
"We
are witnessing an explosion in demand for advanced technical space
where our customers can physically locate their equipment and
connect directly to Level 3's broadband fiber-optic network,"'
said Kevin J. O'Hara, executive vice president and chief operating
officer for Level 3, which has 35 major data centers around the
world.
. "The
new facility we're announcing
today in Garden City is aimed squarely at meeting the growing
needs of our Web-centric customers in the region,'' said O'Hara.
"`Additionally, Long Island is important to Level 3's overall
network strategy because the area serves as a hub for many of
the local access providers, and this new facility offers them
direct access to the Level 3 network.''
. Level
3 enables Web-centric companies to grow quickly by providing infrastructure
and network services to meet increasing demands for e-commerce,
streaming audio and video, and many other Web based and communications
services.
